Junk Email Options in Outlook 2016 for Mac

IT Services utilizes the anti-spam and anti-virus capabilities of Office 365, which block delivery of unwanted emails to your main inbox in Outlook 2016 for Mac by placing it in the Junk Email folder. You can manage some elements of this service using the Junk email settings in Outlook on the Web.

All users who previously checked spam using spamq.uwindsor.ca or Spam Digest email will need to follow the instructions in this knowledge base article. That functionality has been retired as of May 2020. 

Checking Junk

It's a good idea to regularly review messages in the Junk Email folder to check for legitimate messages that were incorrectly classified as junk. All junk email will be delivered to the Outlook folder titled "Junk Email"

If you find a message that isn’t junk, drag it back to the Inbox or any folder. You can also mark the item as not junk by doing the following:

  • On the ribbon menu click Junk > Mark as Not Junk.

Adding emails to Safe Senders list

While Outlook 2016 for Mac does contain functionality for setting up a Safe Senders list, Microsoft states that it provides little value. The recommended approach is to use the server-based Safe senders and Blocked senders available in Outlook on the Web.
