Using Horizon Virtual Desktops (VDI)

The University of Windsor has implemented a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) system that allows people to connect to centrally managed desktops. These Windows 10 desktops have software pre-loaded and they can be accessed from a variety of devices including: Windows PC's, macOS computers, Linux workstations, and Android and Apple tablets.

You can connect to these desktops using a Web browser (of you are on a PC or Mac) or using an application program called Horizon Client.This application program is also available for PC's and Mac's, and provides some extra features over the Web browser connection.

Connecting to the VMware Horizon Server 

Using a Web browser, go to https://vdi.cvm.uwindsor.ca/

Connecting with a Web Browser

The fastest and easiest way to connect to the VDIs is to use the VMware Horizon HTML Access button by clicking on the button and authenticating using your UWinID credentials.

After successful authentication, you can select any of the VDI desktops you are entitled to use.

Connecting with the Horizon Client

You can download and install the Horizon client in two ways:

(1) Open the Company Portal app, and search for Horizon. Company Portal is available for corporate owned and managed PC's.

Click on the Horizon icon and choose install.  Installing software may cause your computer to reboot.  Please save all work before installing new software.

(2) Click on the Install VMware Horizon client icon to download and install from the Web browser at https://vdiconnsrv01.cvm.uwindsor.ca/  This can be done for home PC's.

Logon and Desktop Pool Selection

Logon using your UWin Accound ID and password. 

After successful authentication, you can select any of the VDI desktops you are entitled to use.

Disconnecting your Remote Desktop Session

From your VDI desktop please click on the drawer located in the middle of your left side our your desktop.

By clicking on a menu bar on the VDI Desktop you are Running, you will have an option to Log off or Close the Current Session.

Please make sure you save your work before either Logging off or Closing the current session to avoid any loss of your work or data.
