Body

If you are using your University-issued Windows 10 laptop or desktop while working from home, you may be seeing a message that “Your Windows license will expire soon.”

Because your computer is not connected directly to the University wired or WiFi networks, it is unable to communicate with the University’s Key Management Server (KMS) in order to automatically renew its Windows 10 license. This server leases a license to your device for a period of 180 days and when that date is being approached, you will receive the above warning message if the license cannot be renewed automatically.

In order to address this issue, you need to be using GlobalProtect software to establish a VPN connection to the University network until this message disappears. In fact, it is the best practice to use VPN connection at all times when not connected directly to the University network. For more information, please see Related Articles on the right.
