Installing Xerox printers on a Linux workstation

Procedure for printing to Xerox printers from a Linux workstation

Body

To install a Xerox printer (managed by PaperCut on campus) on your Linux workstation, follow these steps.

NOTE: These steps are from an Ubutu 22.04 LTS device.  If you are using a different flavour of Linux, it may be different.

Steps

  1. Open the Settings and select Printers
  2. Press the "Additional Printer Settings" button
  3. Press the Add button
  4. Select Network Printer / Internet Printing Protocol (https)
  5. Enter the device URI: https;//papercut.uwindsor.ca:9164/printers/Xerox-name
  6. Select Xerox / AltaLink 8155 as your driver. If you do not see this in your list, you will need to select "Provide PPD file" and choose the file that you downloaded.  See below for where to download this file.
  7. Setup the printer name and add optional details
  8. Send a test print job. You should be prompted for your UWIn Account username and password with a pop-up window:

Downloading the Drivers for Linux (PPD File)

At the page Drivers & Downloads - AltaLink C8130 / C8135 / C8145 / C8155 / C8170 Color Multifunction Printer - Xerox scroll to Generic PPD and press Download. This file can be used in step 6 above if Altalink is not in your list of printer types.
