How to Configure Microsoft Authenticator

Objective

Configure Microsoft Authenticator as a method of Multi-Factor Authentication. 

Environment

  • University of Windsor Microsoft 365 account 
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled account 
  • Microsoft Authenticator app 
  • iOS or Android mobile device 

Procedure

  1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. 
  2. On a computer, open the Microsoft My Account portal and sign in using your UWinID@uwindsor.ca account and password. 
  3. Open Security Info
  4. Click + Add sign-in method
  5. Select Microsoft Authenticator from the list of available methods. 
  6. Follow the setup prompts. 
  7. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device to scan the QR code displayed on the computer screen. 
  8. Complete the registration process when prompted. 

Microsoft Authenticator can now be used to verify your identity when prompted during sign-in.
