Question

What is Push Notification with Code?

Answer

A notification is sent to your phone during sign-in. This method is enabled by default once you install Microsoft Authenticator.

How it works:

  • You approve the sign-in request in the mobile app with number matching
  • Notification includes app name and location info
  • May require biometric confirmation

Best for:

  • Regular users daily use
  • Easy and fast approval
  • Preventing accidental approvals
  • Reducing “MFA fatigue” attacks

NOTE: This authentication method is not phishing resistant and is no longer available for new users. Existing users will be asked to transition to a passkey.
