Learning Outcomes in Brightspace Workflow

Learning Outcomes can be aligned to your Brightspace course assessments and content. There is an order, or workflow, that needs to be followed.

Brightspace has two tools that can be used to track learning outcomes achievement, the Learning Outcomes tool and the Competencies tool.  The Learning Outcomes tool permits the use of achievement scales and has been adopted by the University of Windsor.

 

The workflow for using Learning Outcomes is:

1. Add Learning Outcomes to your course
   Program-level outcomes (for various UWindsor academic programs) are entered into Brightspace by the LMS Administrators. Instructors can import program-level outcomes into their courses and/or create their own course level outcomes.
2. Select an achievement scale and set threshold
   Achievement scales are entered into Brightspace by the LMS Administrators. Instructors can select an achievement scale that will be applied to all learning outcomes in their course. Add a threshold that determines line between a learning outcome being met and not met.
3. Associate learning outcomes with assessments
4. Grade assessments
   Grade assessments as you would normally, with the additional step to select and/or confirm a level of achievement for the assessment.
5. View reports
   View reports showing students’ progress on meeting the learning outcomes of the course will use the achievement scale selected in step 2.
