Uploading Autopilot CSV files in Azure Admin Portal

Windows Autopilot is a collection of technologies used to set up and pre-configure new devices, getting them ready for productive use. In addition, you can use Windows Autopilot to reset, repurpose and recover devices. To register devices in Autopilot, you will need to harvest their hardware ID and store it as a CSV file on \\uwdfs.uwinad.uwindsor.ca\Shares\ITS\Autopilot file share. You will then need to upload it to Azure Admin Portal following these steps:

  1. Launch web browser and go to https:\\portal.azure.com and sign in using your staff UWin Acocunt.
  2. Click on All Services on the left and type "Device Enrollment" into "All services" filter box. Mark it as a favourite (gold star) so that it will appear on the menu on the left.
  3. Click on Device Enrollment
  4. Click on Windows enrolment
  5. Click on Devices
  6. Click on Import button
  7. Click on the folder icon next to Specify the path to the list you want to import. and browse to your CSV file in \\uwdfs.uwinad.uwindsor.ca\Shares\ITS\Autopilot

This process may take up to 15 minutes, according to Microsoft. When completed, a confirmation message will be displayed.

You will then need to click on Sync button to continue. Wait a few minutes than click on Refresh button until your device appears on the list (devices list is sorted alphabetically by serial number). It will at first appear with "Not Assigned " in the Profile Status column.

It will then transition to "Assigning", and eventually to "Assigned", at which point this device is assigned to one of the Autopilot Deployment Profiles.

If this device is to be used by a single user, the last step is to assign this device to that user:

1. Locate this device on the list of Autopilot devices and check the box in the first column. this will light up the Assign User button on the top which normally is grayed out.

2. Click the Assign user button.

3. Type in user's name in the "Select" box. This will search for the user and display results.

4. Click on the desired user and click on Select button.

5. Click on OK button to finalise the assignment.

If you are provisioning a new PC, the next step is to add this device to the departmental group in Azure Admin Portal. These groups are used to assign devices to configuration profiles. For devices that were just enrolled in Autopilot, you will need to search for them by their serial number, not their name.
