Older versions of Outlook no longer supported

Summary

Starting November 1, 2021,older versions of Outlook for Windows will no longer be able to connect to Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services in the cloud.

Body

Microsoft has discontinued support for older versions of Office. Starting November 1, 2021, the following versions of Outlook for Windows, as part of Office and Microsoft 365 Apps, are not able to connect to Office 365 and Microsoft 365 services:

  • Office 2007 (all versions)
  • Office 2010 (all versions)
  • Office 2013 (Outlook 15.0.4970.9999 and older)
  • Office 2016 (Outlook 16.0.4599.9999 and older)
  • Office 365 ProPlus 1705 and older

If you are using one of the older versions of Office listed above:

  • on your work computer: please open a ticket to have it upgraded to Modern Desktop
  • on your home computer: please uninstall it, and install a current version of Microsoft 365 Apps from https://office.com (see details)

All workstations managed by Intune will receive an automated installation of Microsoft 365 Apps (formerly Office 365 Pro Plus). The procedure outlined in this article should only be used on workstations that have not yet been upgraded to Modern Desktop as well as BYOD workstations (eg. home computer) and student computers.
