Question
Microsoft Authenticator can generate a Time-based One-Time Password to allow you to access MFA-protected resources
Environment
Answer
The app generates a 6-digit code (Time-based One-Time Password or TOTP) that refreshes every 30 seconds. This method is enabled by default once you install Microsoft Authenticator.
How it works:
- Open Authenticator to retrieve current code
- Enter the code manually when prompted on device to which you were signing in
Best for:
- Offline use of your mobile device
NOTE: This authentication method is not phishing resistant and is no longer available for new users. Existing users will be asked to transition to a passkey.
