Export Brightspace Course Content in a Package

The recommended way to copy your course material (not including any student material) in a form you can import it into a Brightspace site in the future is to export it as a Brightspace Course Package.

NOTE: The package will be a compressed (zipped) folder of files that will not be usable except if imported back into Brightspace. 

  1. In the course offering containing the components you want to copy, click the Admin Tools icon (the gear) in the top right corner of the screen and select Import/Export/Copy Components.Import/Export/Copy Components in the drop-down menu of the Admin Tools Alternatively: You can find the Import/Export/Copy Components link by clicking Course Tools in the Navbar and selecting Course Admin.
  2. Select Export as Brightspace Package. This is the best format to be imported back into Brightspace.Export as Brightspace Package selected under What would you like to do?
  3. Click Start.
  4. In the Select Components to Export section,
  • select the Select All Components check box to export all components, or
  • select the check box(es) for the particular component(s) you want to export. To export only certain items from a component, select the Select individual items to export radio button.Calendar is selected and Select individual items to export is selected

  1. Click Continue.

    Note: If you chose Select individual items to export for any component in the previous step, the Select Items page appears. This page lists all the items and any sub-items contained in the current component. Select the items you want to export and click Continue.

  1. The Confirm Components to Export page appears.

    IMPORTANT!  Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check the box beside Include course files in the export package in order to include files such as PowerPoint and Word in the export.
     
  2. Click Export.
  3. The Export started dialog displays to confirm the export is underway. Click Done. You will be brought back to the Exports page.Export Started. Your export has been started. You will receive a notification in the Updates Alerts when it has completed.
  4. It may take some time for the process to complete. When the export package is ready for download, a notification will appear in the Update Alerts (bell-shaped) icon.  Click the bell icon in the navigation bar.Bell icon is in the mini navbar to the left of the Profile Car and your name.
  5. Once you see the Export finished notification message with a green check mark, click it. This directs you the Export Summary page.
  6. Click the Click here to download the export Zip package link.  The name of the downloaded Zip file will include the course offering code to make it identifiable once saved.
