Accessing DFS File Shares on Windows Computers

If you are accessing a DFS share on a computer that is not connected to Active Directory Domain, you will need to ensure that your DNS settings are configured properly (see Updating your DNS Settings section on the bottom of this document) and you will be asked to enter your credentials in a specific format.

1. Click the Start menu button and enter the following path in the Search programs and files box:  \\uwdfs.uwinad.uwindsor.ca

2. When prompted, provide your UWin Account login name and password in the following format:

Userid: UWINAD\<your_userid>
Password: <your password>

3. If you are accessing your departmental share, double click on Shares then on your share's icon.

Note: Although you can see all of the shares, you will only be able to open shares that you have access to based on your permissions.
