"Authentication Failed" error message when attempting to activate Microsoft Office 2016 Pro Plus for Windows

The Microsoft Office 2016 installation from the University of Windsor's Office 365 site requires activation to verify you have an active account with the University in order to function.

Sometimes the software is unable to activate for a number of reasons - commonly if you had a previous version of Office 2016 installed from another institution or a previous purchase that is no longer active.

If you are receiving an error message about the activation failing or that you have an unlicensed product, please run the Activation Troubleshooter for Office 2016 from Microsoft, and this will usually correct the issue and allow your installation to activate.
