Installing GlobalProtect VPN client on mobile devices (Apple, Android)

Accessing certain resources on the University's network requires that you use a secure VPN connection. To establish a VPN connection, you will use the GlobalProtect app that is available in the app stores for Andoid, Chromebook and Apple iOS platforms.

Downloading and Installing GlobalProtect

The instructions are essentially the same for both Apple and Android devices:

  1. Use the device's app store (e.g. Google Play, App Store) to search for "globalprotect vpn"
    Search results and correct GlobalProtect selection.
  2. From the results, install GlobalProtect by Palo Alto Networks

  3. When the application is installed, launch GlobalProtect if it does not launch automatically.

  4. When prompted for a Portal, enter "securelogin.uwindsor.ca" and click Connect. 

5. When prompted to Sign in, enter your UWinID or your uwinid@uwindsor.ca email, and password, then click Sign In.


6. If you are prompted about creating a Connection request, click OK to accept the request.

7. The GlobalProtect app will show CONNECTED when the VPN connection has been established. There may also be a lock icon or the word VPN in the notification area at the top of the screen.

Reconnecting GlobalProtect

GlobalProtect is designed to stay connected at all times to keep you secure, but sometimes it may disconnect. You can re-establish the connection by launching GlobalProtect and it will automatically reconnect the VPN connection. You can also click the Connect button in the app.

POP and IMAP email clients cannot send messages using smtp.uwindsor.ca due to the server certificate being expired. Users should upgrade to the Outlook email client and configure their email accounts there.
