Enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) on your Mac

Single Sign-On technology will allow you to sign-in to you Mac using your UWin Account credentials. Once signed in to your device, you will also be automatically signed into University apps and websites without having to re-enter you password each time. The added benefit is that you no longer need to remember separate passwords. A change to the UWin Account password is automatically synchronized to your workstation within 4 hours.

Once SSO was enabled on your account by IT Services, sign-in to your Mac, as you normally do, and follow these steps to complete the process of enabling SSO on your workstation:

  1. You will eventually see the Registration Required popup at the top right of the screen. Hover over the pop-up or click on it and select Register. For macOS 13 Ventura users, you'll see a prompt to register your device with Microsoft Entra ID. Enter your sign-in credentials and select Next.

  2. When a Platform SSO window appears, enter your Mac's local account password and select OK

  3. You will be prompted to Register your device with Microsoft Entra SSO. Enter your UWin Account credentials and select Next. Complete the MFA challenge.

  4. If your local password differs from your UWin Account password, an Authentication Required pop-up appears in the top right corner of the screen. Hover over the banner and select Sign-in.

  5. When a Microsoft Entra window appears, enter your UWin Account password and select Sign In.

  6. After unlocking the Mac, you can now use SSO to access participating apps and resources. From this point on, your old local password will no longer work.

Once you've completed the steps above, it's a good idea to check your device registration status.

  1. To check that registration has completed successfully, navigate to Settings and select Users & Groups.

  2. Select Edit next to Network Account Server and check that Platform SSO is listed as Registered.

  3. To verify the method used for authentication, navigate to your username in the Users & Groups window and select the Information icon. Check the method listed, which should be Password.
