The following article provides a brief summary of how University Faculty and Staff can order Microsoft Surface products in order to obtain an educational discount and extended warranty.
Procurement Procedures
The University is able to procure Microsoft Surface products through SoftChoice. Through this reseller, the University will receive the following benefits:
- Business-grade devices - typically better performance, Intel processor,TMP2 chip (required for Windows 11; not available on retail devices) and longer battery life
- Windows Pro operating system (vs Windows Home on retail devices)
- Educational discount
- Optional warranty up to 4 years
To order a Surface device, please refer to the contact information below. Quotes can be requested to facilitate the purchase of your device(s) through the University established procedures (i.e., purchasing credit card or UWinsite Finance purchase requisition / PO).
Recommended Configuration
To ensure compatibility, ITS recommends the following minimum standards when ordering the Microsoft Surface devices:
- Surface Dock if device being used with monitor(s) and other peripherals
- USB-C to display port adapter (one per monitor) or USB-C monitor(s)
- Commercial Complete for Business 3 year warranty or higher (includes accidental damage)
- Intel 10th generation processor (i5 or i7)
