The University of Windsor maintains a DFS share for FileRun that provides certain departments access to specific folders and files. For example, Facility Services has a FPDR folder that they access in this manner. To access a FileRun DFS share, the user will need:
- A university-owned device that’s running both Cortex and GlobalProtect.
- Access to the specific folder in the FileRun DFS share.

On Windows devices, the icon will appear in the Windows Tray menu.

Once you have confirmed that both Cortex and GlobalProtect are running, we can move on to accessing the DFS Share. This will be done in File Explorer.
Before you can begin, you will need to check to see if the user has already been added to the FileRun Users group in Active Directory. This can be done in Active Directory Users and Computers. If the user is not a member of this group, then you will need to create a task to the Active Directory Support Team so they can manually add the user to the group:
- Task Name: Add User to the GS-G-FILERUN_USERS Group
- Task Description: Please make __________ (UWINID) a member of the FileRun Users group. Thanks!
- Task Responsibility: Active Directory Support Team
After the user is added to the FileRun Users group, you can follow the steps below to get the FileRun folder mapped to their device:
- Open File Explorer.
- Locate This PC and right-click on it.
- Select the Map network drive.. option from the list. On Windows 11 you have to select Show more options before you can see that option.
- For the Drive letter, select F for FileRun.
- For the Folder, enter the following: \\filerun.uwindsor.ca\__________.
- Click the Finish button.
The user should now be able to access the FileRun folder in File Explorer.
