UWin Files

UWin Files is an on-premise storage option designed specifically for University of Windsor faculty to securely store research data.

  • Ensures that faculty have reliable, secure, and flexible storage to support their research

  • Provides an alternative storage option to reduce reliance on OneDrive and SharePoint storage

If your OneDrive or SharePoint storage is nearing or over capacity, consider moving active research data to UWin Files. This helps free up space in your OneDrive or SharePoint while ensuring your data remains accessible and protected.

How UWin Files compares to other storage options

This table outlines the key differences in capacities, sharing capabilities and intended use for UWin Files, OneDrive, and SharePoint storage options.  This comparison can help you decide when to use each storage platform and when it makes sense to move files from one storage option to the other.

Service agreement

UWin Files is intended for active research data, not as a perpetual solution for archival storage or publication. The University is actively developing its Research Data Management (RDM) framework, which may require researchers to submit a formal Data Management Plan once the framework is finalized. In addition, when the University conducts future reviews of its storage infrastructure as part of ongoing investment planning, Faculty members and researchers will be asked to provide updated information outlining their data management needs. These reviews will ensure that storage resources are allocated equitably, responsibly, and in alignment with institutional priorities. By continuing to use UWin Files, you acknowledge and agree to participate in these processes as part of our collective commitment to good research data management practices.
