Windows 10 Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) setup wizard

The Out-of-Box Experience or OOBE for short is the phase of Windows setup that allows you to customize your Windows 10 experience. Some of the task you can accomplish include defining personalized settings, create user accounts, join a business network, join a wireless network and define privacy settings.

The Windows 10 first-run setup experience on a single-user workstation will require the user to sign in with their UWin Account.

Multi-user Workstation

1. Wait for the region selection screen to appear and plug in the USB stick that contains the provisioning package copied from \\uwdfs.uwinad.uwindsor.ca\Apps\Intune

2. Once the storage device is attached, Windows will automatically apply the changes skipping the rest of the OOBE setup. You will see a screen confirming which operations were successful.

Single-user Workstation

1. On the Let's start with region. Is this right? screen, select Canada and click on Yes.

2. On the Is this the right keyboard layout? screen, make sure that US is selected and click on Yes.

3. On the Want to add a second keyboard layout?, click Skip to continue.

4. Accept the licensing agreement. 
NOTE: If this device is pre-enrolled in Autopilot, this screen will not come up.

5. On the How would you like to set up? screen select Set up for an organization and click on Next.
NOTE: If this device is pre-enrolled in Autopilot, this screen will not come up and the wizard will proceed with an organization setup automatically.

6. On the Sign in with Microsoft (Work or school account) screen, have the user to enter his/her e-mail address in the uwinid@uwindsor.ca format, and his/her UWin Account password.
NOTE: If this device was assigned to a specific user during the Autopilot enrollment, then you will only be asked to enter user's password.

7. (Version 1803) On the Choose privacy settings for you device screen, location, speech recognition, diagnostics, and other settings are all on by default; leave the settings as is and click Accept to continue

7. (Version 1809)

  • Do more across devices with activity history click Yes
  • Do more with your voice screen click on Use online speech recognition and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Let Microsoft and apps use your location screen click on Yes  and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Find my device screen click on Yes  and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Send diagnostic data to Microsoft screen click on Full and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Improve ink & typing screen click on Yes  and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Get tailored experiences with tailored data screen click on Yes  and click Accept to move to the next screen
  • Let apps use advertising ID screen click on Yes  and click Accept to move to the next screen

8. The last part of Windows 10 setup will take a few minutes to complete. Once finished, you will see a screen that says Setting your device for work. Click on Continue anyway.

9. Intune will now install required software, which can take 10-20 minutes.
