UWin Friend Account

A UWin Friend Account is a guest account that allows someone who is not entitled to a UWin Account to access some of the University of Windsor online systems that require authentication. It does not, however, automatically authorise that person to use any services. To use any of the Friend-enabled services, the holder of a UWin Friend Account needs authorization from the provider of that service.

For example, a student from a university other than University of Windsor who wants to access Blackboard site for a particular course must first activate their UWin Friend Account and then be authorized by the Blackboard instructor or site organizer to access the relevant data.

Requesting UWin Friend Account

University employees can sponsor these special guest accounts for people outside of University by filing out and submitting an on-line request form. There are two steps in the process that a non-University person must follow to gain access to a particular University of Windsor computing service.

  1. Be invited to set up a UWin Friend Account and complete the activation process.
  2. Be authorized to use each desired service by the appropriate service provider.

To submit your request, use the button below. You will need to input the email address(es) of the individual or individuals you would like to invite to receive a UWin Friend account. You can separate multiple addresses by a "," or ";" or by placing each one on a new line.

After you submit your request, each address will receive an email requesting that the individual activate his/her account and set his/her password. You'll receive an e-mail notification after each UWin Friend account is created. If you receive a question from an individual who says he did not receive his message, please ask him to check his spam filter.

Creating a UWin Friend account does not provide access to resources by default. The account must be authorized on the appropriate systems to gain access. Responsibility for authorizing service falls to the sponsor after you have received the email that the account has been activated.

Each account will remain active for two years from the date of activation. If you request an account that is already active, the account will be updated to remain active for two years from your request date.

Requesting Assistance

To request assistance with all other UWin Friend Account issues, such as expiry date extension, etc., please click Open Ticket button on the right. This will bring up a form that you will need to fill-out and submit to open a support ticket with the I.T. Service Desk. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with the ticket reference number and additional instructions.
