Academic & Research Computing (ARC1) Unix Server

The University of Windsor maintains a Unix server named ARC1 (which stands for Academic and Research Computing). It offers a number of Unix applications as well as some analytical programs.

Ask.UWindsor (or UWinsite Service) is a service platform to help address applicants’ and students’ questions about UWindsor.

Audio Conferencing

Audio conferencing is the practice of connecting multiple called parties on a single audio conference call, with multiple lines connected through a conferencing bridge.

Audio-Video Production & Special Events Services

Multiple camera location recordings of guest speakers, conferences, and other special events on campus; full production of promotional and instructional audio or videos and audio/video/presentation consultation and support for special events. Also access to on-campus television and sound studios and studio equipment with professional support to assist faculty, staff and students.

Big File Drop Box

Big File Drop Box service uses a combination of e-mail and FTP services to securely share files with others at the University or outside of the University.

Blackboard Learn

Blackboard is the Learning Management System (LMS) that the University of Windsor supports. It is a robust system with several communication tools including Announcements, Discussions, and a Virtual Classroom called Blackboard Collaborate Ultra; multiple assessment options such as Tests and Assignments; and interactive tools including Journals, Blogs, Discussions and Wiki.

CallPilot Voicemail

CallPilot voice mail system can be accessed from your office phone, from an external number, and through mycallpilot.uwindsor.ca website.

Classroom AV Equipment

University classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment to assist instructors with the delivery of academic materials. Faculty, staff and students can order equipment for their class or event to fulfill AV requirements for rooms without integrated media systems.

A listing of University classrooms including pictures and details on seating capacity, lighting, audio-visual equipment, and more.

Computer Labs

I.T. Services is responsible for maintaining several computer labs across campus.

Continuing Education Registration

Something for everyone - UWindsor's Continuing Education offers workshops, seminars, certificates and more. With minimal pre-requisites for most of our classes, we are open to the community and industry alike.

Crystal Reports

Crystal Reports is a business intelligence application. It is used to design and generate reports from a wide range of data sources.

DHCP Services

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol used to assign IP addresses and provide configuration information to devices such as servers, desktops, or mobile devices, so they can communicate on a network using the Internet Protocol (IP). All IP addresses are dynamically allocated by our DHCP servers on both wireless and wired networks

Disposal of Obsolete Computer Equipment

All computer equipment, such as monitors, printers, computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards and mice can be donated to a local charity Computers for Kids.

Domain Name Services (DNS)

DNS servers maintain a directory of domain names (example: uwindsor.ca) and translate them to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (example: 137.207.71.196).

Drupal Content Management (University Website)

To support University of Windsor website, I.T. Services maintains a content management system (CMS) powered by Drupal. A CMS is a computer application that allows publishing, editing, modifying, organizing, deleting, and maintaining content from a central interface.

E

Electronic Graduate Application System (eGAS)

eGAS allows candidates to apply for graduate studies at the University of Windsor, submit required documents, and track progress of their application. To be able to access eGAS applicants must first create an eGAS account. Note that UWin Account cannot be used to sign into eGAS at this time.

Employee Onboarding & Offboarding

I.T. Services will assist with I.T. related employee onboarding (workstation setup, office telephone service, access to systems and resources), and offboarding (termination of access, workstation redeployment).

Find a Person (Campus Phone Directory)

An on-line phone directory called Find A Person is available at uwindsor.ca/findaperson You can search for faculty and staff by name, department name, e-mail address, telephone extension, or by expertise.

General Printing Support

I.T. Services provides assistance with a wide range of printing issues.

General Software Support

I.T. Services cannot provide a high level of support on all software used on campus. I.T. Services is dedicated to providing the highest level of support possible for packages that are selected for full support. The selection of packages and the level of support given each package are determined by perceived demand, support available for similar packages, knowledge of staff, and the time required (and available) to learn the packages.

JD Edwards Legacy FIS

JD Edwards FIS is a legacy Financial Information System that has been replaced in Feb 2017 with UWinsite Finance (Oracle Financial Cloud & Hyperion). At this time, read-only access to this system is allowed to selected group of users, mostly in Finance department.

LDAP Directory & Enterprise Directory Services (eDS)

Enterprise Directory Services (eDS) aims at enabling the right individuals to access the right resources at the right times and for the right reasons. Central LDAP Directory aggregates user data extracted from so called "authoritative sources", such as HR system (VIP), UWinsite Student, and Campus Phone Directory.

Library Systems

Alma (library management system) and Primo (search engine).

License Request

Faculty, staff and students who would like to use software that is not covered by any of the campus-wide licensing agreements can submit a request to purchase a license.

Listserv

A Listserv is a method of communicating with a group of people via e-mail.

Lotus Notes & Domino

IBM Lotus Notes and Domino Designer are legacy tools that were used by faculty and staff for e-mail, web publishing, and collaboration.

Lotus Notes Web Applications (d)

Our old web publishing and content management environment that was powered by Lotus Notes and Domino is being retired. All remaining Notes-based sites and applications are being migrated to Drupal and HTML based sites.

Microsoft Active Directory (AD) Printing Services

Sharing a printer reduces costs by limiting the number of printers needed within a designated area or department. Ensuring secure reliable access to these networked printers is an important function provided through Active Directory printing services.

Microsoft Distributed File Service (DFS)

I.T. Services maintains a cluster to file servers is that provide on-premise shared storage space for files that can be accessed by the workstations through the network. These shared file spaces are known as "network file shares."

Microsoft Office 365 E-mail & Calendar

Microsoft Office 365 is a productivity, collaboration, and messaging platform. All faculty and staff are required to use Office 365 e-mail for the official University business related correspondence. Currently, only faculty and staff have access to e-mail and Outlook app in Office 365; not available to students.

Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive

OneDrive is a file hosting and sharing service in Microsoft Cloud that is included in Office 365 suite of applications available to University of Windsor faculty, staff, and students. The current storage limit for OneDrive users is 1 TB.

Microsoft Office 365 Portal & Apps

I.T. Services provides full support for these MS Office 365 productivity apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Visio, Project, Publisher. Older versions of Office and MS Access are not supported.

Microsoft Office 365 Room & Resource Reservations

Ability to reserve meeting rooms and resources, such as projectors, laptops, inside Outlook and Outlook Web App (OWA).

Microsoft Skype for Business

Skype for Business lets you collaborate with anyone, anywhere, on any device by having conversations using instant messaging (IM), group chats, voice, or video calls. See when your contacts are available online, in a meeting, or presenting. Present your screen during meetings or give control to others.

Microsoft Teams & Office 365 Groups

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration platform that combines workplace chat, meetings, notes, and files. It is built on existing Microsoft technologies like Skype and SharePoint woven together by Office 365 Groups.

mySuccess (Orbis) Portal

mySuccess is the University of Windsor’s platform to support career and experiential education.

myUWindsor Mobile App

This app was designed with students in mind while also being useful for campus visitors, staff, faculty and alumni.

myUWinfo Employee HR Portal

myUWinfo is the University of Windsor’s employee gateway to Human Resources information system.

Network Firewall & Security

Use this form to open a ticket requesting support for your network security or firewall related inquiry.

Network Jack Activation Request (deprectaed)

Use this form to submit request to activate a network jack that appears disconnected or is not working properly.

New Computer Procurement & Setup

I.T. Services provides assistance to all departments with the process of procurement and configuration of computers (desktops and laptops).

Novell File Sharing

Novell is a legacy file sharing platform that has been replaced by Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and Office 365 Groups. All Novell servers are scheduled to be retired in 2019.

Nuance Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR)

Nuance is an Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) system used by the University's telephone system.

O

Office & Residence Telephone Service

I.T. Services provides telephone services to all locations on campus, and selected off campus locations, including connecting new lines and extensions, moving existing lines, installing or repairing phone jacks, long distance codes, etc.

Personalised E-mail Address

Change your e-mail address from jsmith@uwindsor.ca to John.Smith@uwindsor.ca (example). Not available to students.

Photography

The University Photographer is responsible for creating a photographic record of University events, research, and promotional material relevant to promoting the University’s mission and mandate.

Public Digital Displays

There are about 30 digital public displays that are located in several buildings on campus. These displays are configured by the designated administrator in each department to display specific content.

Public Print Stations (GoPrint)

GoPrint pay-per-use printing stations are available in public areas, such as UCC Student Launge, Leddy Library, and selected computer labs on campus. This service is accessed with your UWin Card.

Qualtrics Surveys

Qualtrics is a comprehensive on-line survey creation service. These tools replaced Fluid Surveys and Lotus Notes based survey services provided by Web Services Group in the past.

The Scantron software and hardware is used for Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET). An on-line service request form for your departmental submission must be filled out prior to coming to Operations Service Counter.

The Scantron software and hardware is used for computerized test scoring. An on-line service request form must be filled out prior to coming to Operations Service Counter.

Self-directed Learning (LinkedIn Learning)

LinkedIn Learning is a leading online learning platform that helps anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. It contains an extensive video library of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts

Software Depot

I.T. Services uses the Software Depot web site for software distribution.

Sophos PureMessage

Sophos PureMessage is a solution that University uses for spam filtering and virus protection for e-mail. All faculty/staff (Office 365) and student (UWin Gmail) e-mail accounts are automatically set up to use the spam filter.

Sophos Virus Protection for Desktops and Laptops

University of Windsor partnered with Sophos, a leading vendor in the Internet security and virus protection software space, to implement virus protection on all computers connected to campus wired network by deploying Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.

Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS)

SPSS is the acronym of Statistical Package for the Social Science. SPSS is one of the most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis with simple instructions. It is designed for both interactive and non-interactive (batch).

T

TeamDynamix Ticketing & Project Management

TeamDynamix (TDX) is used by I.T. Services, Finance and a few other departments for project management and ticketing.

Telus Corporate Smartphones

TELUS is University's preferred vendor for mobility and telecommunication services. Note that this service is available to University employees & retired employees only. TELUS' local authorized dealer for the University of Windsor corporate account is KELCOM Wireless.

U

uView Video Streaming

uView is a user-friendly system for uploading and sharing videos related to the University, teaching and learning, and research.

UWin Account

Your UWin Account is your personal digital identification for accessing a number of on-line services at the University of Windsor. A valid and active UWin Account is required of everyone associated with the University of Windsor who plans on using any of the IT systems and services.

UWin Friend Account

A UWin Friend Account is a guest account that allows someone who is not entitled to a UWin Account to access some of the University of Windsor online systems that require authentication. It does not, however, automatically authorise that person to use any services.

UWin Gmail

All students at the University of Windsor have personalised UWin Gmail accounts which must be used for all official communications with the University. Not available to faculty and staff.

UWinsite Attend

Event Management platform that provides registration and event attendance functions for both paid and free events and is managed by the UWinsite CRM team.

UWinsite Engage

As part of the University of Windsor’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, UWinsite Engage is a marketing automation platform that enables sophisticated e-mail marketing, advanced segmentation, forms, event registration, and digital body language tracking. ​UWinsite Engage is designed to be used by the campus community to deliver relevant and timely communications to UWindsor’s constituents from their first contact with the University as prospective students through their ongoing engagement with their alma mater as proud alumni.

UWinsite Finance

UWinsite Finance is the University of Windsor’s financial information system.

UWinsite Student

Launched November 2018, UWinsite Student is the University of Windsor’s student information platform that replaced the legacy Student Information System commonly known on campus as SIS, Forte, or myUWindsor.ca. Used primarily by students, faculty and staff, UWinsite Student also serves applicants and alumni.

Video Conferencing

Videoconferencing is an interactive tool that combines the use of video, computing, and communications technologies to allow people in different locations to meet face-to-face to conduct a conference. The University has four classrooms and five boardrooms equipped with videoconferencing, as well as a video bridge which can accommodate 24 sites.

VIP (Human Resources Information System)

Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is a collection of related systems: VIP, Pension, Equity, Position Control, Overtime call-in, Casual Time Entry

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology provides secure remote access and secure data transmission between devices that are not connected to the University wired or wireless campus networks and University systems. The the Palo Alto GlobalProtect software that you can install on your computer makes it seem as if it is on the campus network by setting up a tunnel which encrypts all traffic between your computer and the University firewall.

VMware

VMware is a virtualization platform that makes it possible to partition a single physical server into multiple virtual machines. Most of the University servers currently run as Virtual Machines (VMs) in our centralised VMware Virtual Environment.

W

Wired Network & Internet Access

With the exception of the Welcome Centre, all buildings on campus are connected to the University's wired network. Network jacks are generally available in all offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, lecture halls, labs, as well in some public areas (hallways, open space, etc.).

Wireless (WiFi) Network & Internet Access

Wireless (WiFi) network access is available throughout the University campus, and selected off-campus locations.

X

Xerox Copiers

The University has negotiated specialized “fleet” pricing for photocopier and printer equipment, supplies, and repair service with Xerox. In the event that a new photocopier or printer is required by a department, clients are asked to contact Procurement to make the necessary arrangements for the purchase and installation of this equipment.
